Starting Clematis
From Cuttings

I took cuttings from one clematis, dipped them in rooting hormone and potted them up. Now I’m watching to see whether I can turn one plant into a few more.

The experiment

Turning one clematis into a few more

I took several stem cuttings from one of my clematis plants, dipped the cut ends in rooting hormone and potted them up. This entry is where I’ll keep notes on how the cuttings respond and whether any of them form roots.

What I’m watching for

I’ll be watching the leaves and stems for signs that the cuttings are staying hydrated, along with any wilting, browning or new growth. New growth alone will not tell me that roots have formed, so I’ll keep the pots undisturbed while I wait.

Cuttings prepared and potted

I took the cuttings, dipped them in rooting hormone and potted them up. Current status: waiting for signs of rooting.

Next update

I’ll add new observations and photos here as the cuttings change.
